The BIG house update: Part I

Let's start with the downstairs, shall we?
And our "Christmas" kitchen...eek
We started small, with new cabinet hardware...
And then I got really brave and painted our backsplash.
(it's just primed here)
Close-up shot--I love, love, love how shiny and crisp it turned out.
...And the big white instagram progress reveal!
so.much.better
I'm less stressed just thinking about it
And the pale green continued into one of my favorite little spots, the kitchen "nook"
So, out came the white paint...
And then two of our favorite visitors came...
And mom helped me make a window seat!
 So cute.
And two thrifted chairs later (need a third!), here we are.
More to do, but still, so much better.
Next up, the living room! Which looked like this for a really long time.
But back to those visitors...
(hi, mom!)
And new furniture!
And a little bit of paint and pillows later...
Plus some curtains...and we're moving along nicely.
And "the den" prettymuch still looks like this.
But we might have something fun in store for it later...
 Ok, part II coming soon...!

our backyard & black paint

since moving in, progress has been pretty slow and steady. mostly we've just been enjoying this place... one of our new favorite spots

 we've had a few fires...

and toasted marshmallows!! (don't judge my instruments of choice... this was probably before the kitchen was entirely unpacked...) hello, priorities.

and have made way more trips to this place than I would like to admit to.
(this man has a lot of patience)

one of the first projects I attempted was a quick entryway makeover.
(before photo is from the original listing)

which is well on its way to being another one of my favorite spots in the house.
amazing what a little black paint can do.

exam disease

Back when I was in college, every semester around final exams I would remain fairly calm, cool, and focused...on the outside. On the inside, apparently, I was freaking out. Just as the library was becoming a second home for some, and I as I began outlining and re-reading and writing feverishly--my body would produce some sort of super random yet unnaturally worrisome ailment. Two that stand out in particular were a strange lump on my hand/wrist area--and the time my feet kept going numb. And just so you don't think I'm some sort of crazy person (well, totally crazy anyway) I actually showed these to other people and have witnesses. (Hi, Mom!)

So, what does this have to do with my 2013 exam-less self? Well, let's just say there have been a lot of changes at work. Fairly unexpected changes that directly impact me. And let's just say I've been pretty calm and cool. Let's also say for two days I couldn't walk without hobbling due to what i can only describe as some sort of random and totally unwarranted sprain to my left hamstring.  Let's also say Jarret fell off his bike for the first time since I've known him. Luckily he managed to escape with only a few lost layers of skin, some bruising, and a general all-over achyness. But the moral of the story? Exam disease is real! And apparently...contagious.

Sorry for the somewhat graphic photo, but rest assured I'm sparing you from the close-ups :)
PS my new year resolution was to write more. And there's no better time to start than the present, right???
